Verdell Elizabeth Foster

July 15, 1946 — January 12, 2022

Verdell Elizabeth (Poe) Foster, 75, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, with her loving family by her side. The Cleveland, Ohio native was the elder of two children born to the late Lawrence and Carrie (Duncan) Poe.

Verdell confessed her love for Christ at an early age at East Mount Zion Church. She attended Glenville High School and was a proud Tarblooder. On August 10, 1968, she married Henry Foster. To this union, a daughter Kimme, was born. The loving couple were married 53 years. Verdell was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the Church's Sanctuary Choir and was a member of the General Missionary Lelah Lewis Ministry. She was employed by Cuyahoga County government and retired from The Ohio Lottery. Verdell and Ernestine, took excellent care of their mother until her passing in 2015 at age 99.

"Verdie" as she was affectionately called by family and friends was a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, church member, co-worker, and neighbor. Her love of family was shown through her words and actions. She never went a day without letting those special in her life know how much she loved them. She enjoyed keeping up with family and friends; and baking her signature cakes such as Sock-It-To-Me, Brown Sugar Pound and Red Velvet. Through the years, Verdell and Henry enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings in their home, especially Thanksgiving dinner. Verdell enjoyed family vacations like Jamaica, Kure Beach and Virginia Beach, and spending time in Columbus, Georgia with her in-laws. Her warm smile, long chats, and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Verdell was preceded in death by her parents and sister. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, husband Henry and daughter, Kimme; brother-in-law Jessie (Glenda) Foster; and four sisters-in-law; Henry Lou Snelling, Doris Ogletree, Bobbie Sanders, and Glenda Mae Burkes all of Columbus, Georgia; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
