Tommy Gene Forney was born March 28, 1932, in Ragland, Alabama to Willie Mae Oliver, and Thomas Forney. he later moved to Hemphill, West Virginia, where he attended school at Kimball High.
After high school, Tommy joined the United States Army where he served 7+ years. Tommy was a quiet, loving, gentle soul. After successfully completing his term he came to Cleveland, Ohio where he met Sue G. Vernon and became a loving father to his only child, Susan Marie Vernon.
Tommy worked at LTV Steel and was an active Gold Member of the Local 860, until his retirement. Tommy enjoyed traveling to Portsmith, Ohio where he visited his mother and cousin, Wilma Burns. Tommy loved watching sports, reading the paper, listening to his favorite singer, Al Green, and country music. He also enjoyed hanging with friends at the Payne Cafe & Public Cafe.
Tommy was preceded in death by his loving parents, Willie Mae Oliver, and Tomas Forney. Yet he will continue to live through is daughter, Susan Vernon; grandsons, TyShawn Vernon, Sr. & Alphonso Vernon Sr; great grandchildren, TyShawn Vernon Jr, Alphonso Vernon Jr, Alonzo Vernon, and Jamirah Vernon; great nephew, James Christopher Crutchfield; cousins, Shirley Quinn (Billy), Anita Moon, Wilma Burns, Jacquelyn Jones, Tommy Thompson, Jimmy Redd (Y’yony), and Lynda Edmond; special friend, Lena Parker; best friend, Joe; and a host of other family and friends.
