Timothy Mickens

Timothy "Uncle Tim" Mickens was born February 11, 1936 to the late Porta Rhodes and Stella Mickens in Greensboro, Alabama. He attended and graduated from the Hale County Trade School in Greensboro. Uncle Tim worked in the cotton fields growing up, he united in marriage to Ruby Robertson and through this union three children were born, Melvin, Paulette and Annette. He later moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1958 and through another union with his longtime companion Lil Frank, came step daughter, Jackie who he loved. Tim worked for over 25 years at Central Cadillac and then onto construction and installing swimming pools for many well-known celebrities like Bob Hope and Margaret Hamilton. After a house fire where Tim lost everything, his very special and dear friends, Marvin "Unc" and Orene "Rene" took him in as their own son until he got himself reestablished, it was then that he was adopted into the family of Unc and Rene where he loved everyone, and everyone loved him. Tim retired in 2008 from Community United where he was a part time janitor but due to his chronic illness he could no longer work. It was then his God Niece, Adrianne and nephew, Ernest cared for him during this time he was baptized and accepted Christ as his Savior and God called him to Eternal Glory on September 21, 2016. Tim was preceded in death by his mother and father; siblings, Oliver Mickens, Annie Pearl Hines, Clora B. Washington and a special brother, Henry Lee Mickens Sr. Those left to cherish his memories are three children, Melvin Robertson, Paulette Robertson Morgan, Annette (Fred Jr.) Mickens McGuire, Jackie; siblings, Matilda Lee, Barbara Ellen Haston and Dayton (Mary) Mickens; sisters-in-law, Jennie Mickens, Mary Mickens; god niece, Adrianne (Ernest) Ruffin; one very special God son, George Anthony III; a very special cousin, Willie "Gray" Mickens; a dear friend, Ms Cookie, nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. HOME GOING CELEBRATION IS ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st; WAKE 10 AM, FUNERAL 10:30 AM at WATSON'S FUNERAL HOME, 10913 Superior Avenue, 44106. Interment in Riverside Cemetery. Public viewing on Friday from 9AM TO 7PM.
