Rosa C. Hardaway

ROSA C. HARDAWAY, 79; Passed Dec. 14, 2012; Loving mother of Jerry Hardaway and Grachen Hardaway May; cherished sister of Florence Byrd; grandmother of one and great grandmother of one; with a host of other relatives and friends. SERVICES BEGIN at 11:30 AM on TUESDAY, DEC. 18th at Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church, 1116 East 105 Street. Interment in Cleveland Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Rosa Hardaway was born on December 9, 1933 in Luthersville, Georgia to the late Luther and Louella Echols. Five brothers, three sisters, and her daughter, Josephine Hardaway preceded her in death. She completed her journey home Friday, December 14, 2012 at Grande Pointe Healthcare. She accepted Christ at an early age and participated faithfully at Rocky Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Luthersville, Georgia. She attended the Meriwether County School System. In 1953, Rosa and her family moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she began her cooking career at Freddie's Restaurant in Rocky River. She moved on beginning her 30-plus years of employment at Bearden's Restaurant. She will be truly missed for her kind spirit and also for her pound cakes that were enjoyed by many. Rosa was a member of Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church for over fifty years. She was a member of the Missionary Society; Naomi Circle and Progressive League. She made many long lasting friendships while serving as a member of these organizations. Rosa was formerly married to John Hardaway and leaves to cherish her memory one son, Jerry Hardaway, Cleveland, Ohio; one daughter, Grachen Hardaway May (Oscar); grandson, Ahmad May; great-grandson, Aston Winston all from Chesapeake, VA; sister, Florence Byrd of Luthersville, GA; six brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; nieces, nephews and a host of other loving family and friends.
