Richard Thornton was born August 15, 1922 in Hale County, Newbern, Alabama to the late Gene and Lou Thornton. Richard had nine other siblings who preceded him in death. Richard Thornton began his journey by working in the steel plants in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was married to the late Cynthia (Woods) Thornton, this bond of marriage lasted until death entered into the picture. Richard Thornton retired from being a construction worker in 1977. By the grace of God he was able to enjoy all he had coming. Richard Thornton confessed hope in Christ and joined the Eagle Wing Baptist Church on St. Clair Ave. He later moved his membership to Springfield Baptist Church under Rev. Goodman. When he joined Church it became the joy of his life. Only illness kept him out of church. He continued to be a faithful member until his death. Before this time another year I maybe gone, in some lonely Grave yard, Oh, Oh, Lord, How long?
