Obituary of Otis Goodrum Sr.
September 22, 1929 - January 31, 2024
Otis Goodrum Sr. was born on September 22, 1929, in Forsyth, Georgia, to the late Pitts and Estelle Goodrum. After relocating to Cleveland, Ohio, he accepted Christ at an early age and remained a faithful member of First Zion Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years under the leadership of Pastor L. T. King.
Otis was united in matrimony to the late Martha E. (Perry) Goodrum. He later found love again and married Daisy (Mays) Goodrum, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his brother Charlie Goodrum of Cleveland, Ohio; his sister Mary Smith; his brother-in-law Mason of Warner Robins, Georgia; and his son Sammie Lee Price of Byron, Georgia.
Otis leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Daisy Goodrum; his sons, Alonzo Perry and Otis Goodrum Jr.; and his daughters, Yvonne Taylor (Larry), Rose Goodrum-Cross, and Nadine Goodrum. He was a loving grandfather to Latonya Michelle Wright of Warner Robins, Georgia; Shequana Williams of Opelika, Alabama; Marvin Cross Jr. (Elizabeth) of San Mateo, California; Michael Cross (Sharhonda); and Marcus Goodrum. He also leaves behind fourteen great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and loyal friends.
After relocating to Ohio, Otis worked at White Motors and Graber Manufacturing for over 25 years. He later joined the City of Cleveland, Parks and Recreation, where he served for five years. A true entrepreneur at heart, he was the proud owner of Otis Rubbish Disposal (Trucking Services) and Otis Cleaning Services.
Otis Goodrum Sr. lived a life of hard work, dedication, and faith. He was known for his kindness, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. On January 31, 2024, he went from labor to reward, entering his eternal rest. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
