Gwendolyn Mary Monica Walcott was born May 16, 1935, to the late Sadie and Allan Walcott, Sr. She was the youngest of 8 children. Her grandparents were Mary Jane and John Walcott. Her brothers were Albert and Allan, Jr., Lemuel, Xenophon, and Uriel (all deceased) her sisters are Phyllis and Rosalee (deceased). Monica attended Mary Crest Catholic School and John Hay High School. She attended Cuyahoga Community College where, during her studies, she made the Dean's List. Monica was baptized at an early age and her family has been affiliated with St. Adalbert's Parish for many years. In her early years, Monica worked at Bobbie Brooks Textiles and Higbee's Clothing. Later she retired from Carnegie Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She continued her life's purpose by continuing to serve her community while working and volunteering at the Neighborhood Community Center in the Youth Community Program. Monica had the innate ability to help others she always had a kind word and a pure sense of optimism. Monica was a mother figure, not only for her children but to her grandchildren, friends, and extended family. Some would say Monica was a "shoulder to cry on" and a "guiding light" for those who needed it. Monica had the greatest love for music, all genres; she was a movie "buff" and she loved reading all types of books-one of her favorite subjects was Black History. She also loved fashion and gardening. Monica was suddenly called to her heavenly home on June 24, 2019. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister Phyllis, her seven children Cecelia, Cynthia, Cheryl Ann, Darnell, Anthony, Stacey, Christopher, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
