Mattie D. Smith was born April 1, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to Sylvester and Bertha Williams (Both Deceased). She was the fifth child born of ten Children: Dorothy, Thelma, Elmira (Deceased), Robert, Lucious, Earl, Lewis (Deceased), Sylvester (Deceased), and Charles (Deceased).

Mattie accepted Christ at an early age. She was passionate about the God she served and was a dedicated life-long Member of Trinity Outreach Ministries Church of God and Christ.

Mattie attended and graduated from Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

In her adulthood, she had a loving relationship with Richard Hurt Sr. From that union, Richard Hurt Jr. was born.

Later, she formed a loving relationship with James Smith. They married in 1958 and of that union they had six children: Gwendolyn Beverly (deceased), Jeffrey Smith, Darryl Smith, Earnie Smith, Inez "Peaches" Smith, and Robert Smith.

She met her lifetime partner of 30 plus years, LB Warren, and they showcased a loving relationship until his death on September 5, 2021.

Mattie carried two jobs simultaneously for 12 years at Emanuel Healthcare and Menorah Park. After 30 years of service at Menorah Park she retired. She enjoyed her retirement until her death on September 19, 2021.

She is preceded in Death by Sylvester and Bertha Williams (Parents), LB Warren (Spouse), James Smith (Spouse), Elmira Williams (Sister), Sylvester Williams (Brother), Lewis Williams (Brother), Darryl Smith (Son), Jeffrey Smith (Son), and Gwendolyn Beverly (Daughter).

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Richard Hurt Jr, Earnest Smith, Inez Smith, and Robert Smith. Her siblings: Dorothy, Thelma, Lucious, and Earl. And a host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and countless friends of whom she has made a loving and lasting impression on.
