Marvin Burgess

Marvin "Fate Israel" Burgess was born January 22, 1920 in Ashburn, Georgia to the late Willie Lou and Isaac Burgess, Sr. He was the last of eight born to this union to pass away. Marvin has three surviving half siblings; brothers, Ralph and Danny, both of Detroit Michigan and sister, Carrie of Austin, Texas. Marvin departed this life on January 2, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was educated in Ashburn, Georgia until he left school to find work. Marvin later moved to Cleveland, Ohio in the late 1950's, where he realized his talent was cooking Soul food and barbeque. He had several restaurants over the years and was known for his extra spicy food and barbeque sauce. Marvin occasionally attended New Direction Church of God in Christ under Pastor Webb. He was known as "Cadillac" because he often owned one and was a debonair dresser, suits, hats and cigar. Marvin leaves to mourn his wife, June; and to their union were born, Marvin, Marzell, June and David; all of Cleveland, Ohio; his children, Marzell [Miami, FL], Maureen [Clearwater, FL], Diane [Bristol, GA], Sharon [Cleveland, OH], Jody [Cleveland, OH], Kim [Decature, GA], Isaac [Millbrook, AL], Timmy [Opaliha, GA], Hortense [Decatur, AL] and Gola [Cleveland, OH]. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Marvin had six children who preceded him in death, Marie, Ronald, Donald, Tony, Marvella and Marvin.
