Marlene Betsy Mathews-Sanders aka "Bo" was born April 13, 1949, in Cleveland Ohio to the late Elizabeth Henderson and Henry Matthews. She was the youngest of nine children: Barbara, Audrey, Joe, Big Billy, Henry, Emma Jean, George, Ralph and Marlene; and the last to receive her wings. She was a proud resident of Unwin - Quincy Road and graduated from East Tech high school in 1969. She attended Cuyahoga Community College with aspirations of one day having her own business. She followed in her big brother Ralph's footsteps working at UPS, along with many other jobs. Marlene was married to Lummie Sanders JR. for 25 years and from this union they created and became the proud parents of nine beautiful children: Eric, Nicole, Ronald, Carmen, Kimberly, Shelly, Lummie 3rd, Cedric and Melanie made them even prouder grandparents of 24 grandchildren: Ne'Chelle, Sierra, Ronitta, Asia, Rojuanisha, Johnnie, Antwon, Lummie 4th, Diamond, Shell'e, Kymberlee, Romel, Kimel, Quiana, Ny'zel, Kiara, Jason, Jarell, Isavier, LeChelle, Harley, Riley, Eric, and Thomas. Marlene was a great grandmother of five: Willard, Kayson, Londyn, Lumiya, and Chyna. Beautiful, loving, strong, funny, generous, and most importantly irreplaceable are just a few words to describe Marlene. She will mostly be remembered for her love of music; Marlene was music. She had a unique eye for fashion, could pull off any look and was influential with her style. She never met a stranger she was the friendliest, most warm welcoming person anyone could ever meet. She loved everyone she encountered and friends always became family. As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, counselor, motivator, and protector, Marlene wore many hats. It's the little things about Bo that makes her unforgettable: mixing her lotions and perfumes together, playing her Barbara Streisand, Melba Moore, The Rat Pack and Temptations DVDs over and over again, her wall that had everyone's name written in lipstick with pictures, her non-traditional Christmas tree with pictures of friends and family as ornaments, her quirky sayings, her collections of wigs and hats, ordering the same items over and over from her favorite online stores and so many other "Bo traits." Marlene Betsy Mathews-Sanders was granted her angel wings on December 14, 2019. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Marlene touched in many ways throughout her life. Even after 70 years, Marlene's life may seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Marlene's family would like to thank everyone for coming to celebrate her life today. Being such a sociable, family-oriented person her entire life she would be so happy to see all of us gathered together in these hard and sad times comforting each other and remembering her. We can never forget that there is a part of her in each of us something that she gave to us and asked nothing for in return. Thank you Granny, we love you always and forever. Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance...
