Marguerite Bruce

April 6, 1931 — November 6, 2021

Marguerite Bruce was born on April 6, 1931, in Pavo, Georgia to the parents of Mildred James and Roy Hancock (both deceased). She was one of three siblings; Doris James and Nellie Pinkney, both preceded her in death. Her adopted brother, Prentice Hancock also preceded her in death. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio with her father at the young age of 12 years old. Marguerite graduated from Central Senior High School.

Marguerite was a "worker". Her work experience started as she grew up helping in her father's grocery store. Later she became employed in her father's business known as Hancock Wholesale Candy & Tobacco Company. The success of this business continued as she became owner and manager until she entered retirement in 2003.

She met and dated the love of her life, Harry Bruce. They were united in Holy Matrimony and shared 60 years of marriage and happiness. To this union, they affectionately adopted their son, Anthony LeVon Bruce in 1972. He made his heavenly transition in 2012. "Tony" could not have asked for a more loving mom and dad. Marguerite provided him with all the love and care needed by any child to grow up and become a responsive individual and son. Tony's sister Cindy (Jason) was very fond of Marguerite and loved her like a mother.

Marguerite was a very caring and thoughtful person. If she met you and you needed a helping hand; she would be right there by your side. She enjoyed bus trips to the casino and loved to get together with her card club members. Sometimes they would play "Tonk" until the wee hours of the morning. She enjoyed watching the Game Show Channel as well as Wheel of Fortune; Price is Right, The Chase, Catch 21, etc. She also would spend many hours watching sports with her husband. She particularly enjoyed the games of baseball and basketball.

Besides being a good cook, she was a meticulous dresser. Everything had to be fashionable and coordinated. Even after surgery she was asking for her "lipstick" while in the recovery room. She was a strong and proud woman.

God saw that you were weary So He did what He knows best.
He came and stood beside you, and whispered, "Come and rest."

Marguerite departed this life on Saturday, November 6, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Harry Bruce, dear niece, Paulette Holliday (Richard), Cindy Sephus (Jason), Bernice Jackson, Belinda Rayam, Mary Bell and a host of cousins and friends.
