Louise Hunter Barbee was born on December 12, 1934, in Fostoria, Alabama. Louise was the 3rd oldest child in a sibship of 12, born to the late Jeremiah and Willie Virginia Hunter.
Louise confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, and joined First Baptist Church in Farmersville, Alabama. In 1954, after graduation from high school, Louise left Alabama and relocated to multiple states, which included Florida, Arkansas, Nebraska, and then settling in Cleveland, Ohio. In Ohio, she was a member of The East End Church of God and Christ, and Mt. Victory Missionary Baptist Church, respectively.
On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, God called Louise’s name and she answered. She departed this life at 3:32 pm.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah and Willie Virginia Hunter; her husband, Floyd Barbee; her daughter, Ida (Tootsie) Holloway; her granddaughters, Arielle Swoopes and Terese Hightower; her sisters, Julie Hunter and Hattie Hale; and her brothers, M.C., O.C., and Emmett Hunter.
Louise is survived by five (5) children; Deborah (John) Grissom; Robert Lee Tiggs Jr.; Kelvin Tiggs; and Marchea (LeJuan) Smith, all of Cleveland, Ohio; and Keith (I.J.) Tiggs of Ft. Meyers, Florida; six (6) sisters, Fannie Mae Adams, Eloise Goins, Mary Lee (Lucius) Gatrell, and Ruby Harbin, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Dorothy Jean (John Henry) Golphin, of Aiken, South Carolina; Thelma (James) Caffey, of Miami, Florida; and one (1) brother Alja (Nora Mae) Hunter of Haines City, Florida; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Louise was loved and respected by many people. Her courageous spirit, willingness to help others in need, and nurturing attitude touched the lives of many. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
