The Lord fulfilled his promise to Linwood "Duke" Carothers Jr as he was blessed with 73 years of life. Duke was born to the late Linwood Sr and Mable Carothers on January 3rd, 1948. He was the eldest of five children. Duke attended Cleveland Public Schools. His first son Bryant Carothers, was born in 1968, who also proceeded him in death. He later returned to John Hay Extension School and received his high school diploma in June of 1971. In August of 1971, Duke welcomed his second son, Terry Crumpton.

In September of 1970, Duke began his 30 year career at Seaway Foods where he later met his wife of 47 years, Evangeline "Pookie" Minter. They married on May 4th, 1974 and to this union two children were born, Calli Carothers-Mango and Leo Carothers.

Duke was a very funny guy with a no nonsense attitude. In his younger years he loved playing cards with family and friends and having a good time. He loved all Cleveland sports teams and had a love hate relationship with the Browns. Duke was an avid lover of old tv shows, especially Sandford and Son, Archie Bunker, Columbo, Hogans Hero's and Andy Griffith. One of his favorite movies was Car Wash.

Everyone knows Duke loved playing the Ohio Lottery, especially the Pick 4. He played 1570 from the time he retired in 2000 to the day he died. In his later years, he and his wife Pookie loved frequenting the casinos he often referred to as "The Club House". Duke most enjoyed spending time with his grandbabies, who he often said had "Their fingers in his EYE".

Duke slipped peacefully from this world on Wednesday evening December 29, 2021, surrounded by his family at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mable and Linwood Carothers Sr; son, Bryant Carothers; brothers, Michael and Jim Carothers; and nephew, Michael Woods.
