Lewis C. Barber, Jr

December 21, 1948 — May 26, 2023

A Time to be Born
Lewis C. Barber Jr. affectionately called "Teddy", was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 21,1948, the second of two children, to the union of the late Lewis C. Barber Sr. and Estella Hoiston Barber.

A Time to Live
Teddy was baptized at the age of 12 by Rev. William M. Downs into the East Mt. Zion Baptist Church family; his grandparents Leah and Howard Duff were founding members of the church. Teddy attended schools in the Cleveland Public School System. He graduated from East High School in 1968 and during his attendance at East High, he lettered in football, wrestling and track. After graduating from school, he found employment at General Electric then Midland Steel where he worked for 30 years until he was forced to retire due to his health. Teddy also attended Cuyahoga Community College. Teddy enjoyed participating in softball leagues, bowling leagues, music, and dancing. His favorite dance partner was his sister, Ingrid. They loved dancing together and people enjoyed watching them.

A Time to Serve
Teddy sang in the male chorus of East Mt. Zion Baptist Church and since the pandemic, participated virtually in the services.

A Time to Love
Teddy married Myra Smith and to this union was born one son, Andre Barber Miller (Lisa) of North Carolina. He later married Jackie Kidd and to this union were born Steven and Carmen. Sharon Crosby and Teddy shared a loving relationship for several years until her passing. The Good Lord later willed it be that Teddy and Patricia renew their friendship; a friendship which blossomed into marriage. They enjoyed their lives together until his sudden passing.

A Time to Transition
Teddy was called home to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, May 26, 2023.
Teddy spent all his life preparing for this transition; he exhibited and lived the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance, against such there is no law.
