Levonia Deweaver

d. December 3, 2011

LEVONIA DeWEAVER, 81; Levonia DeWeaver was born to Charlie and Alberta James in Birmingham, Alabama on Nov. 6, 1930. She was the only child born to their union, although she does have a sister, Mamie Lee. Levonia was married to George DeWeaver, Jr. in 1950. George and their son Rudolph, Sr. (Linda) preceded her in death. However, she leaves a legacy with her other five children, Randolph (Linda), Harold, Sr. (Marta), Donald, Elaine (Martin, Sr.) and Regina. Not to mention a litany of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After raising her children, Levonia went back to school and graduated from John Hay High School. Even later in life she would insist "get some education in your head." Since she was adamant about the importance of education, she pursued her studies further at Tri-C. As she would often say "I worked for over 40 years in this town." She retired from the Cuyahoga County Social Service Department as a trained nurse assistant. However, her life didn't stop merely because she retired. She simply pursued her other interests and passions. She loved earnestly, prayed fervently and talked candidly. Levonia loved the Lord Jesus and readily encouraged others to do the same. Her approach was usually in your face, to some people's surprise, yet clearly unforgettable. Though some might have thought she was blunt, they soon became enamored with her. Early mornings were spent in her prayer closet, interceding for friends, passer-byes and family, particularly all her children. She loved her family. Her love drove her to her knees. Once her prayer time with the Lord was done, time was spent studying her Sunday School lessons and the Bible. Levonia was a member at the Calvary Church of God in Christ, where she was an active member of the Sunday School department. If Levonia wasn't praying, you could likely find her at church, making clothes, crocheting, cutting her lawn, baking, attending crocheting classes at Murtis Taylor or myriad other activities. While mother's unexpected death on Dec. 3, 2011 saddens the family, we celebrate the life of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. In celebrating her life we proclaim what she taught us: get an education, do what's right but more importantly, get saved; serve the Lord Jesus. HOME GOING SERVICES ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2011, WAKE 9:30 AM, FUNERAL 10:00 AM AT Calvary Church of God In Christ, 10808 Superior Avenue. Interment in Cleveland Memorial Gardens.
