Levander Payne Jr. was born on August 2, 1929, to Levander Payne Sr. and Fannie Mae Harris in Abernate, AL. He is the younger brother to Wilbert Payne. Before becoming a teenager, he made the paper for pulling his unconscious mother and brother from their house. Saving their lives from a severe carbon monoxide leak
With his infectious personality and great sense of humor he could light up a room. Sharp memory with numbers, events, and people. Through the years he loved traveling to see family and friends. He also loved playing the lottery and visiting casinos with his wife, Charlie Mae.
Levander received his formal education from Central High. Where he became a stand out football player and a boxer. He even fought in the Cleveland Golden Glove Tournament in 1948. During his junior year, Levander met a Sophomore named Charlie Mae Hargrove. They would marry Shortly after High School on March 30, 1951.
Levander went on to serve his country by joining the United States Army, July 10, 1951. His call to duty would place him fighting many times in an active war zone during the Korean War. He was Honorable discharged as a Corporal.
He would go on to work 30 plus years for Bonne Bell. Become close friends with the owner before retiring from the company in the 1990's.
Levander transitioned over to me: Charlie Mae Payne (wife), Kimberley Ann Payne (daughter), Levander Payne Sr. (father), Fannie Mae Payne (mother);, and Wilbert Payne (brother). He is survived by grandsons, Levander Payne, David (Roni) Payne, Nathaniel Payne, Several great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.
