Lavonia McGhee Cooper was born on July 2, 1936, in Milledgeville, Georgia to the union of Eddy Pitts and Anna Green. She was the second youngest of nine children. At an early age, Lavonia accepted Christ and joined County Line Baptist Church in Haddock, Georgia where she was baptized. As a teen, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio and joined Faith Tabernacle Church Of God In Christ. After completing her education at East Technical High School, she enrolled in classes at Cuyahoga Community College and earned her RN Degree in Nursing. With genuine compassion for others and a beautiful loving heart, she quickly excelled in her career as a Private Duty Nurse. Lavonia was a devoted mother, an excellent grandmother, and a protective great-grandmother who truly loved her family. She eagerly helped raise her grandchildren and had a deep affection for her nieces and nephews. Almost everyone she knew, genuinely loved her and affectionately called her "Granny." She was always a loyal friend, selflessly having concern for the welfare of others. It was common for her to help anyone in need; supplying them with food, shelter, clothing, or monetary gifts. Her numerous talents included being an innovative fashion designer, who owned her own home-based business. She created beautiful articles of clothing, custom-made upholstery covers, and custom-made draperies. Additionally, she was an excellent cook, who joyfully prepared full meals to share with others; and was famous for baking her delicious, and highly-requested, sweet potato pies. In recent years, she became a member of Peoples Church Of God In Christ and enjoyed attending the services there. She was affectionately called "Mother Cooper" by her church family and often enjoyed taking her beloved twin great-granddaughters to worship with her. Lavonia transitioned from this life and went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2020. She is now reunited in heaven with her husband, Deacon Joseph Cooper, son Ronald McGhee (Debbra), sisters: Ella Mae Curry, Magnolia Gilchrist, Georgia Curry, Evelyn Jenkins, Eula Simmons, and Ruby Gibson, brothers: Eddy and Willie Pitts, who all proceeded her in death. On earth, she leaves to mourn her daughter Carolyn Cooper, her son Kelvin McGhee, two granddaughters Asia and Shaina Germany, three great-granddaughters Shanya and Shamya Shepherd, Lily Gray, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and her Peoples Church Of God in Christ family. She will be deeply missed, and will forever remain in our hearts.
