Laura Verla Duvall (née King), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, was born on May 5, 1924 in Bakerton, Kentucky. She was the third of six children born to Louis and Minnie King. She slipped into sweet silence on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 4:17 AM at Cedarwood Plaza Nursing Home. She was 87 years old. Laura met and married Joe Sam Duvall. To this union two children were born: Hattie Ethel Stanford and Tommy Joe Duvall. Laura and Joe Sam later divorced. As a young lady Laura worked as a domestic. In this position, she traveled with the family to Dayton, Ohio in the early 1950's. Upon leaving employment as a domestic, Laura moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1956. After arriving in Cleveland, she joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church where she remained a member for over 48 years. She served on the Missionary Circle No. 6 Board and her daughter Hattie Ethel worked with the Wilson Dunbar Young Missionary Group. While in Cleveland, Laura continued her education, which began in Bakerton and received her G.E.D., an accomplishment of which she was very proud. She worked at various companies, one of which was Servomation until her retirement. After retiring, Laura wanted to stay busy and be involved so she took a position with the City of Cleveland in the Department of Aging because she wanted to help other seniors. In this position, she learned to operate a computer and was excited how easy it was for her to learn. She really enjoying learning and she took advantage of the opportunity to take free college courses and completed a certificate program at the age of 77! Laura continued to enjoy learning, reading and volunteering, which she did for many years while living at the Abington Arms senior apartment building. Laura loved her family and got great joy out of family gatherings. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Don and William, her sisters, Dimple Price, Millie Bowe and Minnie Ruth King, and her daughter Hattie Ethel Stanford. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her son, Tommy Joe, grandchildren: Laura Jo Vaulters, Anita Anders, Andrea Duvall, Katrina Hawkins, Kimberly Hawkins, Lamar Stanford, her great-grandchildren: London, Lydia, Fallon, Nicholas, Christopher and Keanu, her dear great-great-grandchildren, nephew William Price, a special cousin Joyce Smith, former daughter-in-law and good friend Ellie Duvall and many other beloved relatives and friends. SERVICES ON SATURDAY, JULY 30; WAKE 3:00 PM, FUNERAL 3:30 PM at Watson's Funeral Home, 10913 Superior Avenue. Interment is Private
