Karen E. Hall

June 13, 1951 — March 26, 2022

Karen Emory Hall was born June 13th, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Daniel William and Ethelene Amelia Hall.

Karen spent her early childhood years on Quebec Avenue with her elder siblings, sister, Velita and brother, Daniel (Dee). The family then moved to E 101, along with their cousin, Lloyd Brown and aunt, Myrtle Brown. Karen attended Oliver Wendell Holmes elementary, Empire Jr. High, Glenville High School, and Cuyahoga Community College. In 1970 she gave birth to her only child, Reginald Hall.

Karen accepted Christ at an early age, becoming a member of Glenville Presbyterian Church (Glenville New Life). She was a member of the choir along with her father, Daniel Hall, and was involved in many church activities, and even became a deacon. With New Life at Calvary, Karen was a choir member, a Women's Guild member, and created the Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Karen's first job was in a grocery store at the Glenville Neighborhood Opportunity Center, an organization dedicated to helping people in the Glenville area with job training, access to utility assistance, and summer programs for local children, and more. She later took a job as a secretary to a podiatrist who also served the Glenville area.

In the early 80s, Karen got a job with Penton IPC, a local publishing company. She started in the lowest entry position in the Circulation department, handling data entry for magazine subscribers. She eventually worked her way up to the Directories department, which handled the directory listings for B2B (business to business) companies across all the company's publications. Through hard work and dedication, she became the first female director of a department, Director of Directories. Her work with an outside programming company helped Penton Media save thousands of dollars by streamlining processes, and she was rewarded by being promoted to a Vice President position. She worked for the company for 23 years.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents Ethelene and Daniel Hall.

She is survived by her son, Reginald; sister, Velita; brother Daniel; cousin, Lloyd Brown; daughter-in-law, Diane Owens-Hall; granddaughter, Ellen Owens; great-granddaughter, Anaiyah Robinson; nephews, Daniel Hall II, David Hall, Mark, David, and Brian Carr; nieces, Jennifer James and Tyish Brown; a host of friends and her church family.
