Julius C. Whitt

Julius C. Whitt III, born on August 29, 1930, in Selma, Alabama, passed away on January 8, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the son of Essie Mae Whitt.

Julius was a remarkable man who lived a fulfilling life and touched the hearts of many. His legacy will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Julius attended Tuskegee Institute before enlisting in the Army, where he served for 25 years as a Combat Medic, and Paratrooper. His dedication and bravery led him to receive numerous accolades, including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Combat Medical Badge. He demonstrated immense courage and selflessness in his military service, ensuring the well-being of his comrades in the face of danger.

After his distinguished career in the Army, Julius transitioned to the civilian sector. He worked for Bethlehem Steel and later as an X-Ray Technician for a medical contractor. Through his work, he continued to make a positive impact by helping others and contributing to the medical field.

Julius was not only dedicated to his profession but also to his community. He was a member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Alabama and a member of the esteemed Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. His involvement in these organizations exemplified his commitment to service and brotherhood. Additionally, he was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church of Alabama, where he found solace and strength in his faith.

Beyond his accomplishments, Julius had a variety of interests and hobbies that brought him joy. One of his passions was using the CB Radio to communicate with people from all around the world. His call sign, "004," became synonymous with his friendly and outgoing nature. Through his radio conversations, he formed connections with individuals near and far, leaving a lasting impression on their lives.

Julius's greatest joy, however, was his family. He is survived by his loving sons, Ronnie, Elliott, and Jason Whitt, who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts. Kim, his niece and devoted caretaker, provided unwavering support and care throughout his life. Jennsy, his sister, and Diane were also cherished by Julius. He adored his host of grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness and pride.
