Julius Cornell Longshaw

May 31, 1968 — March 7, 2020

Julius Cornell Longshaw, born May 31, 1968, in Cleveland, Ohio was the youngest child of the late Ruth Lucille Longshaw and Julius Longshaw.  Julius was a godsend to his family, born during a very difficult time, when his father was terminally ill.  From the anticipation of his birth and throughout his life, he brought hope, encouragement and joy. During his childhood and youth, Julius was affectionately referred to as "the baby," particularly his mother's baby; but, he was not just special to his mother, he always held a very special place in the hearts of each of his siblings as well. Julius was a fun-loving, extraverted child with a zeal for life and a natural curiosity.  He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and Benedictine High School where he took advantage of the opportunity to travel abroad to Scotland.  During the summers, Julius would work helping a real estate investor renovate investment properties, long before house flipping became popular.  This was a skill he honed as he periodically worked on projects assigned to him by his mother in the family home. He was an avid reader who enjoyed sci-fi, an artist and a musician who enjoyed playing the saxophone. He graduated high school in 1986.  After high school, Julius attend Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, briefly, but then decided that he wanted to immediately begin to start his career. Early in his career Julius worked at GTE Airphone, in the IT department in Oakbrook, Illinois.  Drawn by the lure of a warmer climate, he relocated to Dallas, Texas where he would pursue a career in sales.  It was in Dallas, where he would meet and marry LaSharen Howell.  In 2008, he and LaSharen, welcomed their baby daughter and "the apple of her daddy's eye," Maya Elizabeth Longshaw. While in Dallas, Julius began his pursuit of a career in the insurance industry, obtained his license and became an independent insurance professional.  He would go on to work multiple assignments throughout the United States and Canada making lasting friendships throughout.  Ultimately, Julius found his way back home and purchased an investment home in Cleveland, Ohio that he was working to renovate.  Julius' talent for singing emerged later in life when he was asked to join a Jazz R&B Ensemble as their lead vocalist  Many of his performances were broadcasts in the  Greater Cleveland Area. Julius, a jolly soul, a lover of life a kind person and a joy, made an indelible impact on the lives of all who knew him. He was raised in a Christian home, was a deeply spiritual person, who came to faith in Jesus.  Until we meet again in heaven, he leaves behind, his daughter, Maya Elizabeth Longshaw, his step-son Scottard Alexander Banks II; three brothers: David Williams, Eric Longshaw, Mark Longshaw; four sisters: Deborah Williams, Ruth Ann Longshaw, Judith Williams, Denise Henderson; five nieces: Shirielle Williams, Jamie Longshaw, Bridgette Williams, Alexandra Henderson, Victoria Henderson; five nephews: Brandon Williams, Jacob Williams, Jamar Longshaw, Deven Longshaw, Brice Longshaw, Deon Longshaw; and a host of other family and friends
