Josephine Brown, age 93, was the only child of Henry and Cora Underwood, born in Brent, Alabama, on October 6, 1931. Josephine accepted Christ at an early age at the Church of God in Christ in Fort Payne, Alabama. She completed her education at Parker High in Birmingham, Alabama, before meeting and marrying David Allen Sr., who preceded her in death. They relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, and to this union, they had four children: Sandra, Diane, Kathy, and David Jr. She later remarried Milton Brown, who also preceded her in death. To this union, they had one child: Rita, who also preceded her in death.
Josephine was an exceptional seamstress who worked for Avon Cleaners, designing and sewing outfits for many famous singers such as The O'Jays, Patti LaBelle, BB King, and Martha and the Vandellas, to name a few. She also designed and made wedding gowns, bridesmaids' dresses, and prom dresses for many years. Josephine also loved to cook. She believed in making sure that everyone was fed. She was most famous for her turkey and dressing, and it didn't matter if it was Thanksgiving or the 4th of July-someone was always requesting a pan of her delicious dressing. She also enjoyed teaching and playing Bid Whist.
Josephine's journey ended on Friday, December 20, 2024. The Lord sent His angel to give her the wings she diligently earned and relocated her to the prepared home which pales in comparison to any home she ever lived in. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. Her journey to Heaven was peaceful and graceful.
Josephine leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Sandra (Douglas), Diane (David Sr.), and Kathy (Reginald); son, David Jr.; grandchildren, Fertino, Tiffany, David Jr., Dante, and Guy Jr.; great-grandchildren, Devaun, Caillou, Devin, Trayvon, Aliyah, Skylar, and Josiah; and a host of in-laws, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
