John Franklin Horn

March 12, 1952 — June 16, 2019

John Franklin Horn affectionately known as Frank was born in Mobile, Alabama on March 12, 1952, to Doris and Cleve Horn Jr. (deceased).  John was the oldest of ten children. The light of John's life was his three sons, Alfred Lamont Pettaway, Ramone Horn and Rayshawn Spencer, and his four grandchildren. When John spoke, he would often speak with laughter and a smile, something that truly will be missed by everyone. Because of his personality, John knew no strangers. He called everybody his buddy no matter the age. John loved his mother and his mother loved him dearly. He never strayed far from his mother's home and her home cooking. He was an inspiration to his family and the youth in the neighborhood. He often encouraged others to seek employment, to further their education and to live an honest productive life. John confessed Christ at an early age and truly believed and acknowledged the Lord in his daily life. One of his favorite scriptures was Psalm 34:17, "When the righteous cry for help the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles." John knew that the Lord would fight all his battles. John attended grade school in Mobile and pursued higher learning at Mobile State.  Once the family relocated to Cleveland, John continued taking courses at Cuyahoga Community College and Cleveland State University. His goal was to become a lawyer. John's first job was as a paperboy. He would often come home complaining that his customers would not pay him for a job well done. He quickly decided to change careers and retired early. He found a real job at Parker Hannifin. Later, John was employed at the Ford Motor Company and worked over 32 years until his health started to waver. He enjoyed working at Ford and developing the lasting relationships he built over the years with fellow employees. In the tradition of his father, Cleve Sr., John developed a unique style of dressing and was always dressed to impress no matter where he was going. Due to health issues, he was unable to drive, but he did not let that stop him. He became an avid walker, no matter the weather. He loved to walk to his favorite places, which included the corner store, which he would frequent two to three times a day to play and check his lucky winning numbers. His second beloved place to walk to was the Cleveland Clinic. There he would spend time drinking coffee, socializing and making new friends. He also loved to visit the MLK and the Case Western Reserve Libraries to keep up on current events. Keeping up on current events helped him to become a great debater. He enjoyed a good debate (whether you wanted to debate with him or not, was another question). Some of John's other passions included baseball, vacationing, and celebrating with family, especially during the holidays. He enjoyed spending time with longtime friends, Allen Patrick, and Betty Jo Elmore-Palmer. John was called to glory on Sunday, June 16, 2019. He was proceeded in death by his beloved sister Brenda Horn-Ali. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons: Lamont, Ramone, and Rayshawn; four grandchildren; his loving and devoted mother, Doris Horn; five brothers: Robert Horn (Darlene), Ronnie Horn, Cleve Horn (Shirley), Fitzgerald Horn and Gregory Horn (Terancita); Three sisters: Debra McClendon (Rodney), Doris Davis (Jeffrey) and Angela Horn, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
