John Robert Grissom, Jr., (Barney, Bunny), was born on March 25, 1951, in Hogansville, Georgia, to the late Mattie Lou and John Robert Grissom, Sr. John was the oldest of three (3) children, and the only son. His sisters, Belinda and Evermae, both preceded him in death.
John grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. John confessed Christ as a young child. He was an active member of the Mt. Victory Missionary Baptist Church. John attended and graduated from East Technical High School, Class of 1970. John was an active member of the East Tech Class of 1970 Reunion Committee. John married his wife, Deborah, in October 1994. John is father to three (3) sons, Robert Anthony Mills, Chad Tiggs, and John Robert Grissom, III.
After graduation from high school, John relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. He resided in Atlanta until he married, and then moved back to Cleveland, Ohio in December 1994. In Cleveland, John was employed by ABM and Beech Brook, until he retired in the summer of 2016. After retiring, John's favorite past-time events were sitting on his deck and caring for his plants; watching the Food Channel, rooting for the Cleveland Browns, and making big breakfasts for his family every day. John suffered from multiple illnesses for many years. He answered his heavenly calling on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
John is preceded in death by his father, John Robert Grissom, Sr., his mother, Mattie Lou Grissom, and his two (2) sisters, Belinda Diggins, and Evermae Grissom.
John leaves to cherish his memory, Deborah, his wife of 29 years; three (3) sons, Robert (Tawanna), of Atlanta, Georgia, Chad, and John III, of Cleveland, Ohio; one (1) grandson, Jayden Carter and one (1) grand-daughter, Robin Mills, of Atlanta, Georgia; two (2) nieces, Anitra Carol (Ricardo) West and Sonya Diggins of Columbus, Georgia; one (1) nephew, Tyrone (Tynita) Grissom of Newnan, Georgia; one (1) sister-in-law, Marchea (LeJuan) Smith, two (2) brothers-in-law, Robert and Kelvin Tiggs; one (1) aunt, Mattie B. Anderson, all of Cleveland, Ohio, one (1) uncle, Tommy (Vivian) Terrell, of Palmetto, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
