John Charles

John Charles was born July 26, 1932, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Mary And John Charles. He was the 8th oldest born of this union. As a child, John attended Piney Grove Baptist Church where he accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Tuscaloosa Public City Schools. He moved to Cleveland in his late teens and began a career in construction that he worked for many years before retiring in 1982. He also was a self-made entrepreneur for over 40 years when he was known as "Sonny Boy."

In 1958, John met his lovely wife Carolyn and in their union had six children. John was a loving and wonderful husband and father to all of his children. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed shooting pool, fishing and listening to the blues. He was humorous and had a gift for making people laugh. On the evening of July 20, 2020, he made his transition to be with the lord with his family by his side. John was preceded in death by his parents Mary and John, his siblings Zeke, Pennington ,Alexander, Preston, Lander, Mary, Henrietta, Bell Lee, and Henry.

John leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Carolin; 11 children, James, Annette, Sylvia, Anthony, Patricia, Joyce, Lisa (Orlando), Cecelia (Johnnie), Sandra, John, and Latasha; 23 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; his only living sibling Hanna Sewel, Chicago, IL; along with family and friends who will miss him dearly.
