James Michael Pickett was born on October 29, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the first of two children born to Bennie and Clara Pickett (deceased). Michael graduated from Glenville High School in 1967. Following high school, he entered the U.S. military. He spent 2 years of active duty in the Navy and later completed 4 years of reserve duty in the Navy. He also completed 10 years as a Reserve in the Army National Guard. Michael always enjoyed talking about his time in the service. During those 16 years of service, he received a National Defense Service Medal, an Award of Merit and an Ohio Faithful Service Ribbon. He married Mary L. Marks in 1971 and to this union a baby girl, Marleea M. was born on October 11, 1972; she was a joy and throughout the years they developed a unique father/daughter relationship. Marleea currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Michael loved his family; he had a special bond with his sister, Paulette. They shared precious moments daily; which touched every part of their lives. James as called by some, was employed by Container Box Company in his younger years. He later went on to become a member of the United Food Workers group; working at TOPPS Market. At the time of his passing; he was employed at Daves Market Severance Center location. He enjoyed his job, and was a hard worker. At times he had the opportunity to work as the Assistant Dairy Manager in his department. Co-workers and customers spoke highly of his work ethic. He wanted to always give his best because he loved his job. Michael was a very outgoing individual who always made friends. He could charm you in minutes with his smile and infectious personality. He always had an encouraging word for someone who was going through a tough time. He enjoyed playing with his cell phone / surfing the web; often emailing daily inspirational quotes and scriptures to family and friends. Co-workers thought he was funny; always cracking jokes, but loving life as a caring and motivated kind of guy. Besides being a good cook he was a big animal lover; caring for fish, parakeets and especially having a fondness for dogs. He shared his humble home and love for Brady, his chocolate Labrador Retriever, even as he met Bradys medical challenges by being a loving caregiver for his dog. Michael departed this life on March 10, 2014. He leaves to treasure his memory, his loving daughter, Marleea; cherished sister, Paulette; caring brother-in-law, Richard; devoted uncle, Harry; devoted aunt, Marguerite; special friend, Liz McDonald, and a host of relatives, friends and co-workers. He will be truly missed by all.
