James Robert Mahone Sr.

Public Viewing from 9 am to 7 pm on Thursday, July 21; Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 22 beginning 10:00 am at Watson's Funeral Home 10913 Superior Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44106. James Robert Mahone, Sr. was born to the union of the late Pearson Mahone, Sr. and Fannie Mahone on October 21, 1932 in Troy, Alabama. James was the fourth child born into the family of six children. Deceased before him were both parents; an older brother Lewis Ben Mahone, and a sister Eugenia Clayton. James attended public school in Troy, Alabama. While working on the R& L railroad, James relocated to Harlan, Kentucky where he met and married Lillye Mae Barnes. From this union are seven children: James Robert Mahone, Jr., Robert Lewis Mahone, Sr. (Sharon) Aretha Rena Mahone, Arnita Faye Hollis (Ronald Hollis, Sr.)Vernita Toray Marn, Frederick Lopez Mahone (Tangela) Robert Dante' Mahone. In 1958, James moved to Cleveland, Ohio. He accepted Jesus Christ under the leadership of Pastor J.W. Hayes and he became a member of the Hayes Temple Church of God in Christ. James was an active deacon and served as the Sunday School's superintendent. He had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir and was referred to by Mother Hayes as "the little man with the big voice". James worked several odd jobs until he found his calling to become an entrepreneur. In September of 1971, he and his wife became distributors of Fuller Products Cosmetics which then became Mahone Brothers and later Mahone & Sons and then Mahone Enterprise. Their business was located at 12829 Euclid Avenue in East Cleveland, Ohio, where James was known as a great motivational speaker where he employed over 1,000 people and instilled in them to become their own boss. James was known all over the Cities of East Cleveland and Cleveland as the well dressed salesman who wore his suit, white shirt, and tie every day. James was an avid reader and a great conversationalist on religion, current events, sports, politics and business. His favorite scripture was St. John 14:1-3 and his favorite song was Amazing Grace. James leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Lillye Mahone, seven children, twenty four grand children, and twelve great grand children, two brothers , Galvester "Pap" Mahone of Alabama, Pearson (Stephanie) Mahone, Jr. of Cleveland, one sister, Nellie "Grace" Mahone-Trotter of Cleveland, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. James is gone to be with the Lord, but shall forever live in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
