Jake Cohen Thomas was born September 3, 1940 to Reuben and Daisy Thomas in (rural) Hubbard, South Carolina. Jake began his spiritual walk at an early age . He peacefully transitioned into God's Kingdom on Friday, February 18, 2022. He was 81 years young.
When Jake was 23 years old, he met a beautiful 16 year old Alabama native by the name of Callie Lee. The two were wed on October 3, 1964, and from this union came 3 beautiful children Lisa LaJoy, Keith LaShon and Precious Devon.
In the late 1950's Jake joined his brothers in relocating to Cleveland, Ohio. He arrived eager to work and begin his legacy. During his journey Jake held various roles to include steel worker for Ryserson Steel., bar owner, All American Food Truck, J&K Carry Out and Heal America Employment for the Youth. Over the years Jake used his platform to promote community activism by mentoring and employing community youths. He encouraged self awareness, getting an education, saving for your future, being kind and following Christ.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Daisy, his sisters, Gladys (David) & Betty (Ellis), and his brothers, John, Joe (Net), Charles, Reuben ( Minnie), TC (Salena) & Allen (Viola). Of the 9 siblings, Letta Phelps (Thomas) remains. Left to cherish his memory are his children Lisa LaJoy Govan (Kirk), Keith LaShon Thomas (Mea) and Precious Devon Downey (Kevin). Also celebrating his life and legacy are his 13 grandchildren, Tierra Baker, Taylor Young (Xavier), Tyler Baker, Vonn Walker, Keith Thomas Jr., Kayla Thomas, Mario Mattox, Kelsea Thomas, Keshon Thomas, Airika Mattox, Kavaughn Downey, Kayden Downey, Kasey Downey and 8 great grandchildren. Jake also leaves behind a host of family and friends.
