HERMAN MATHIS (also known as Jim) was born May 6, 1923 to the late Estella Arnold and Vandora Mathis in Crawfordsville, Arkansas. He was one of twelve children. All of his siblings preceded him in death. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He met his wife, Margaret Mathis, in Forest City, Arkansas, where they united in holy matrimony in 1946. They moved to Cleveland in 1951 where he later joined Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church as a dedicated member until his health failed. He was a Construction worker for over 30 years and he loved to plant and grow gardens, flowers and fruit trees. Matthew 7:17 states, "Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit..." He always enjoyed helping others when they needed something fixed. He also enjoyed sharing from his garden and fruit trees (especially those peach trees and please do not forget the pretty collard greens.) He was known for producing good fruit not only through gardening but through encouragement. He always spoke what he believed was right and wanted others to do what was right. He departed this life on October 10, 2010 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife, Margaret Mathis; his two nieces, Joe Ada Mack and Antonnette Mathis; his two nephews,, Archie Bell and Jimmie Lee Bell, a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many treasured friends.
