Henrietta E. Clancy

November 19, 1926 — September 9, 2018

Henrietta E. Clancy was born November 19, 1926, in Union Town, Alabama to William and Bertha Green. Henrietta had one brother, Curtis Green. Henrietta graduated high school in Union Town, Alabama. Later in life, she attended the Computer Training Institute and trained with H&R Block. Her interest in taxes expanded to classes at Cleveland State University. She was a tax preparer for H&R Block for several years and volunteered to prepare taxes for the Martin De Porres Center well into her 80s. Henrietta joined East Mount Zion Baptist Church in 1947. She proudly served more than 50 years on the Usher Board, holding the position of financial secretary for many years. She taught Sunday School and was a long-time member of the Ester Bible Class along with other ministries in the Church. In the community, Henrietta served as Vice President of the 117th Beulah Avenue Street Club. She received special recognition from the Mayor's office for her efforts that led city officials to tear down several abandoned houses in the neighborhood. Henrietta was very active with voter registration. She spent many election nights as an election judge making sure that everyone's vote was recorded correctly and counted. Henrietta was united in holy matrimony to Ellis E. Clancy. This union was blessed with six children, Ellis Clancy, Jr., JoAnn Clancy, Joyce Clancy, Yvonne Neal, William Clancy, and Yolanda Barnes. Henrietta was an Assembler at Eaton Corporation for 18 years. She later became a pioneer of the first form of computers while working at Carpenters in the payroll office. Henrietta loved to cook for anyone. She was especially known for her Pound Cakes, Sweet Potato Pies, Peach Cobblers, and many other delightful sweets. She also made hardy dishes of macaroni and cheese, fried corn, dressing, and other delicious foods. Henrietta also loved flowers, God gave her the gift of knowing how to garden and grow greenery. Henrietta E. Clancy passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018. She was preceded in death by her father, William Green; mother, Bertha Green; son, Ellis Clancy, Jr.; daughter, JoAnn Clancy; daughter, Joyce Clancy, and son, William Clancy. Henrietta leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ellis E. Clancy; daughter, Yvonne Neal (Eugene); daughter, Yolanda Barnes (James); brother, Curtis Green (Ruby); sister-in-law, Lucille Gooden, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
