Geraldine Jones was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Lillian (Strickland) Marbury and Ned Marbury, Sr. in the year of our Lord November 27, 1940.
She accepted Christ at an early age at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. She was educated in the Leeds, Alabama School District and graduated from Robert Russa Moton High School in 1959. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio after graduation where she was employed with the Saint Vincent Charity Hospital Health Systems which she remained a dedicated employee for 40 years.
Geraldine was united in holy matrimony to Cornelius Jones, Jr. on August 14, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio. To this union, three children were born. She joined the Good Shepherd Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eddie L. Hawkins and then under the leadership of Reverend Walter L. Radcliffe. She was a devoted servant to the church in the Women’s Chorus.
Geraldine always had a knack for making friends. She always had enough love to go around and would always extend her help and support to anyone in need. She loved to travel and celebrate the holidays with her family. She always had a smile with a warm greeting and was always wondering if you had enough to eat if not, you would surely be fed.
On Sunday, May 17, 2020, she passed away peacefully, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Geneva Strickland and Mary Ann Eatmon and brothers, Wallace Marbury, Willie Marbury, and Ned Marbury Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 57 years, Cornelius Jones Jr.; three children, Anthony C. Jones (Ivy) Tacoma, WA, Constance M. Norris and Desiree L. Jones, Cleveland, OH; one sister, Jessie Mack Cason (Palmer), Birmingham, AL; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
