George Calvin Dawkins Sr

Watson's Funeral Home 10913 Superior Avenue Cleveland, Ohio 44106 George Calvin Dawkins, Sr. was born April 3, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the third child of the late Coleman and Mary Francis Dawkins. He was preceded in death by brother Oliver L. Dawkins and sisters Elizabeth Mae Scott and Marjory Wortham. He attended Pittsburgh public schools, graduating from Schenley High School in 1944. His college years were interrupted by two years of service in the Army, 1944-1946. Upon being discharged, he returned to the University Of Pittsburgh and received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering, class of 1949. George was joined in marriage to the late Barbara J. Williams, of Mona, West Virginia, on February 14, 1951 and they re-located to Cleveland , Ohio that same year. Their 49 year union produced two children: the late George Calvin, Jr. and Jane-Ellen . He retired from J&L Steel in 1992 after 39 years. He attended Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church where he was also a member of their Progressive League. George is survived by his daughter, Jane Ellen; nephew by marriage, Vincent M. Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends.
