France's Carla Griffey was born April 17, 1952, at Fort Dix, New Jersey. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Durward Patton Griffey, and Artha Beatrice Lewis.
The family moved to Cleveland in 1954 and Frances attended Chesterfield Elementary and Patrick Henry Junior High Schools. She graduated from Glenville High School class of 1970, attended and received a degree from Dyke College in 1980. After working many years for Cuyahoga County, she moved on to work for the United States Postal Service and retired after 22 years.
Frances worshiped with her family and was baptized at Phillips Avenue Presbyterian Church in 1962.
Frances loved to sew and was a shoe fanatic and shop-a-holic; QVC had a customer for life. Smooth jazz and R&B were her favorite music. She loved to travel and especially loved going to the Kentucky Derby.
Frances passed peacefully in her sleep March 18, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Durward and Artha Griffey and her nephew Bruce Wilson. She is survived by her son William, sisters Patricia Wilson and Rosemary Butler (Johnny), nephews Brian Wilson and John Butler; great -niece Jaidyn Wilson, great-nephew Nasir Wilson and her many cousins and friends.
The family offers special thanks to cousins Earl McDonald and Damon Griffey for their assistance and support and to the Cleveland Clinic Hospice staff for their care of Frances during her final days. As she transitioned she made us laugh, cry and reflect on life. We miss her, but she is at peace.
