Fletcher Grant Jacobs Sr., age 104, passed away, November 9th, 2023, at Louis Stokes VA Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, with his daughter, son and grandson at his side.
Fletcher was born January 10, 1919, in Grand Cane, Louisiana. He is survived by his son, Gregory W. Jacobs and his daughter Lela M. Clay (Rodney Clay), along with his son-in-law Walter Williams Sr., 12 grandchildren, Anthony W. Young (Julie), Michael Young, Allen Lightner, Davida Franklin, Ashley Olivo (Joseph Olivo), Christopher Clay (Dakota Clay), Walter Williams Jr., Kimberly Williams, Stephen Williams (Tiffany Williams), Antoine Gay, Danielle Gay, Rahmond Ballantine, and 13 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
On June 25th of 1942, Fletcher enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He met Hattie V. Jacobs (deceased) and married her On October 17*, 1944. Fletcher was Honorably discharged from the Navy on the 22d day of June 1946. He had a total of 7 children, Valerie L. Young, (Deceased), Beverly A. Williams (Deceased), Fletcher Jacobs Jr. (Deceased), Dwight Franklin (Deceased), Lela M. Clay, Janelle M. Jacobs (Deceased), and Gregory W. Jacobs.
In 1945, Fletcher and his wife, with their first-born child Valerie, moved to Cleveland, Ohio to begin a new life in the North. He began a career in construction work and joined the Local 310 Union. He was a devoted father and an excellent provider. Fletcher was an avid fisherman, hunter and an amazing cook. He became a member of Bethany Baptist Church and dedicated his life to Christ.
Fletcher Grant Jacobs Sr. was the ever-present father, grandfather and role model. His comedic timing and one-liners were classic. He was honest in his delivery and said what everyone else was already thinking. He encouraged all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to pursue an education and a career. He wanted the best for all of his loved-ones and provided the best example to achieve that goal.
