Evelyn D. Knowles

Evelyn Delores Knowles (Tidwell), born May 22, 1929, was the second child born to Henry and Maggie Tidwell in Warren, Arkansas. Evelyn was educated in the Bradley County school system in Warren, Arkansas. In high school, she participated in extra-curricular activities selling ice cream to benefit local sports programs. She graduated in 1947. She was a loving and caring young woman.

Evelyn professed hope in Christ at an early age joining Bethel A.M.E. Church in Warren, Arkansas. After relocating to Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Knowles became a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church on the northeast side of Cleveland.

In the early 1950s, Evelyn Knowles relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where she met the love of her life, James S. Knowles. They were joined in holy matrimony on October 1, 1949. They spent 54 years together. Evelyn and James were blessed with two wonderful children Sandra Kay Boyd and Dennis James Knowles.

Evelyn was a career-woman working as a salesperson at William Kitt, a boutique women's clothing store at Shaker Square, in Cleveland, which later became Kelly Kitt. In retirement, she worked part-time at La Bell Femme in Shaker Heights.

Evelyn enjoyed festive family gatherings, hosting parties, sewing, gardening, cooking, and giving back. She was a long-time member of a women's civic organization called the Sorrell's, and the Career Women's Civic Club.

Evelyn Knowles departed this life for His eternal home at 11:17 a.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2022, with her children Sandra and Dennis and family by her side.
Evelyn was proceeded in death by her parents Maggie and Henry Tidwell, husband James Knowles and brother Ulysses Tidwell.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Sandra K. Boyd; one son, Dennis James Knowles (Gail A. Grizzell), one sister, Mary Net Norwood; two grandchildren, Heidi McDaniel (Sylvester), and Cynthia Westbrok; three great-grandchildren, Tiah Boyd, Tyler Boyd-Roston, Sylvester McDaniel, Jr.; three great-great grandchildren; and several nephews, and nieces.
