Evelyn Kilpatrick Harper was born on May 9, 1947, the daughter of Sidney Kilpatrick, and Augusta Emily Kilpatrick. She was born in Mobile, Alabama and part of a large family of 10 siblings. After graduating high school, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 18. She later met and married Alfred Lester Harper Sr, and from their union, two children were born.

Evelyn was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Those who knew her would agree she was soft spoken and pleasant which naturally drew people to her. She loved to greet you with a hug. She was a very gentle soul and always willing to help you out in anyway she could. She was an extremely hard worker, working many years at Cotter & Company before returning to school later in life to complete her studies as a Nursing Assistant. then working at Menorah Park for several years as a Nursing Assistant Workleader. Caring for others was her true passion. She had a "Heart of Gold" and it showed in everything she did. She worked tirelessly as a genuine caregiver not only with her patients; but for friends and most importantly her family who she affectionately loved. She taught both of her children the importance of Love and she lead by example. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.

Evelyn shared a special closeness with her son and she affectionately called him "Junior" and their favorite song was "Happy". She loved her daughter as much and would often say "Peace Be Still" reminding her not to worry so much everything will be okay.

Evelyn was a member of the Jehovah's Witness organization and for many years regularly attended meetings, assemblies, and annual conventions before her health prevented her from attending.

Evelyn loved to cook for others, and everyone loved her homemade dressing, macaroni and cheese, beef pot roast, lemon and chocolate mini tarts, and so many other things no one could cook it like Evelyn.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; also, Alfred L. Harper Sr; four siblings, Alonzo Kilpatrick, Stephen Kilpatrick, Diane Ruffin, and Laura Ruffin.
