Evelyn D. Ewart

January 6, 1929 — August 15, 2019

Mrs. Evelyn Delores Ewart (Langford), affectionately known as " El," was the oldest of eight (8) children born to the late Robert Lewis, Sr. & Carrie Willie Langford in Cleveland, Ohio on January 6, 1929. Two (2) Brothers, Robert L. Langford, Jr. and James David Langford; and two (2) sisters, Gwendolyn Georgina Wise, and Carolyn Marlene Graham, preceded her in death. Evelyn received her formal education in Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from John Hay High School, where she was one of the exceptional African American females to excel in stenography. As a young child, Evelyn attended church with her mother at Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor George Caslin. In 1985, Evelyn accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior. In 1947, Evelyn met Alfred Samuel Ewart through a family friend. After the courtship and falling in love, Evelyn and Alfred united in Holy Matrimony on June 18, 1949. To this union, ten (10) children were born. Evelyn and Alfred were married 66 years when the Lord called Alfred home. Evelyn was known for her outgoing personality, and never being afraid to speak her mind. To know her was to love her. She possessed the qualities of being thorough, organized and hard-working. She also took pride in the way she dressed and that her house was always clean. She also loved to dance and entertain. Evelyn's tenacity was exhibited in her various careers. She was a Nursing Assistant at University Hospitals of Cleveland and St. Vincent Charity Hospital. The height of her career was working with troubled youth when she was appointed the Supervisor at Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Center, which is also where she retired. During her career with the Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Center, Evelyn had the opportunity to meet, mentor and coach a very special young man by the name of Antwone Fisher, who later in life became a writer, with a published book, and a 2002 American biographical drama film that he made sure to acknowledge her support and kindness. Evelyn departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2019, surrounded by family at her home. She leaves to cherish in loving memory, ten (10) children; Donald Ewart (Annie), Sharon Turner, Gail McGraw (Kenneth), Sandra Roberts, Darryl Ewart (Marissa), Mark Ewart (Brenda), Dennis Ewart, Michael Ewart, Tammie Ewart and Tracie Ewart; Seventeen (17) grandchildren; Twenty (20) great-grandchildren; and Seven (7) great-great-grandchildren.
