Etta Indira Marsh was born on April 14, 1944, to Sarah Phillips (deceased) and grew up in Kosciusko, MS. She attended Central Mississippi College High School and Attala County Training School for honor and gifted students.
Etta later relocated to Cleveland, OH, where she met and married Nathaniel Marsh (deceased), and they raised their family. She was a homemaker and played an essential role in their family business, Marsh Painting and Contracting, handling all contracts and payroll. Alongside raising her children and running the business, she secured a position at Gould Industries. She furthered her education and became a Reconcile Clerk at Key Bank in downtown Cleveland, where she worked and retired after approximately 15 years. Etta was immensely proud of her position and was well-loved by her colleagues. She always found time to host memorable birthday parties for her children.
Etta had a passion for plants and flowers and enjoyed macramé in her earlier years. Her creativity was evident in how she repurposed glass ashtrays into beautiful vases. She was also ahead of her time with nail art, performing magic on her fingernails long before the nail salon craze. Etta often sold her macramé and vases to neighbors and friends, taking pride in maintaining the integrity of her historic home. In her later years, she became a Special Needs Caregiver to Patricia and Ariel, whom she adored.
Etta also cherished visits from her siblings and grandchildren and enjoyed shopping at clothing boutiques, always finding unique items. She passed away on October 3, 2024, preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Phillips; her husband, Nathaniel Marsh; her brother, Robinson Phillips; her son, Clifton Phillips; and her daughter, Felicia Suzette Marsh-Richardson, who died just 72 days earlier.
She is survived by her siblings Russell Phillips, Barbara Nickerson, and Myrith Edwards; her children Frenchie Phillips, Barry Phillips (Bridget), Reginald Phillips, and Terrence Marsh; her grandchildren Kisha, Demascus, Ernest, Whitney, Brittany (Byron), Marquisha, Barry, Eric, and Nadia; her great-grandchildren Quentin, Diamond, Qiejon, Jaylen, Qenyon, Brock, and Yomii; and her dear friends Lula Adams, Lucinda "Cindy" Miller, Juanita Jackson, Eddie Mae, Loreen Warren, and AllieV Adams, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Etta will forever occupy the hearts of all who knew her.
Etta embraced and loved her Haitian Family.
