This is Her Story…
On April 15, 1921 Edna Louise “ was born in Burton, Ohio to Hugh and Ethel Gaines. To this union was born 3 children; our “Gammy” as she was affectionate-ly called, Miner, and Lloyd, both of which preceded her in death.
Gammy received her general education diploma from Jane Adams High School in Cleveland, OH, went to nursing school, and then on to pursue a medical career beginning at Eliza Bryant Village.
She ultimately enjoyed a long & successful career as an LPN at Menorah Park in Cleveland, OH. She was there for decades, until she retired.
Gammy believed in God and her faith was demonstrated in the unlimited amount of love & support she showed to her family. Gammy also had lasting friendships in the likes of Mrs. Stokes and Ms. Margaret, both of whom proceeded her in death.
Our Matriarch was a trendsetter, the first to show us many new items & gadgets! For instance, she was the 1st to own a microwave and a robot that served food! She was stylish and made her own clothes for years. Everyone who knew her knew she loved animals, all kinds of animals! Who brings monkeys to the city and makes clothes for them? Our Gammy!! She could play poker with the best of them and one little drink was just enough for her to show you her own special dance that would definitely have you rolling! Our Gammy was fun-loving, and she loved to entertain. She was one to never give up on love, either. We know her affectionately as “Ednah Louise Gaines Shy Phillips Williams Davis.” Gammy was Gammy, and there will never be another!
Ednah Louise departed this life on Sunday December 13, 2020. She was preceded in death by 2 of her children; Jimmy “Abdul Akhir” Shy (Michael, Derrick, Daryl, Donald, Annette, Neema, and Arian, & step children), and Beatrice Mahone (Dorado “Malik” and DaNine “Kym”).
