MANUEL, 94, was born on January 10, 1922 in Dayton, Tennessee and joined her late husband on December 9, 2016 in Westerville, OH. She is survived by her children James Jr. (Ruth), Glenn (Linda) and Rita; grandchildren, Christine, James, Keith Allen; Tammy Manuel and Ashley Deas; Michigan, Florida, California, Italy; nephews/nieces (Richard, Roland, Anita, James Jr., Vicki, Robin, and Bryan); many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and Cleveland/ Westerville, OH friends. She moved to Cleveland in 1925 with father, James Sr., siblings James Jr. and Elizabeth (all deceased). Edith became a church member early on at Mt. Haven and later, East Mt. Zion Baptist Churches. After graduating from Central H.S. as 1940 Class Valedictorian, she met and married her late husband, James Sr. in 1945. Upon attending Cleveland College, some of Edith's many life achievements were: Federation of Community Planning's first African American Clerk/Receptionist/Secretary and working for Phyllis Wheatley Association's early Special Projects Office. Her love of music steered her to appreciate opera, and become a member of Cleveland's Mother Singers. Edith's faith enabled her to hold offices in Cleveland Sub-District of Baptist Women/Women's Auxiliary of N.O.B.D.A./Church Women United, as well as, giving service to numerous East Mt. Zion departments, inclusive of the in-home, husband/wife tandem start-up of EMZ's Lifeline Food Bank...the late James Sr.'s inspiration. She also assisted James' small business, Manuel Trucking and being a MOM!!! Last residing in Westerville, OH, at the Village of Westerville she enjoyed friendships and participated in fulfilling activities. Edith's life experiences garnered continuing Education classes at Jane Adams and Cuyahoga Community College, as well as, nurture and share her love of music, art, and lifelong knowledge.
