Douglas Price

March 20, 1942 — November 4, 2023

Douglas Price was born in Mississippi on March 20, 1942, to the late Eddie and Alice Walton Price. He was the second of seven children.

At an early age he confessed his faith in Christ at New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist in Madison, MS. He received his early education at Fairview School and graduated from Sam Brinkley High School. Having lived in California for a short spell, Douglas migrated to Cleveland, Ohio, to live with the uncle he was named after, Douglas Price. He worked at his uncle's barbershop as the shoeshine man to get on his feet in a new city. He later furthered his education at Dyke Business College and become an accountant. He was employed at Caterpillar, Inc., the United States Coast Guard, and Judson Park Retirement Home.

Douglas was a kind and caring man, who loved his God, family, and church community. His church played an integral part to the start of his own family. It was at East Mount Zion Baptist Church, in Rev. Crowder's Sunday School Class, where he met his bride, to the late Ann L. Wright. They were united in holy matrimony on July 16, 1966. To their union were born Stephen Douglas and Jessica Ann.

Douglas later taught Sunday School himself and was ordained as a deacon. Deacon Price had a heart for serving others, as he showed in his devotion of visiting the sick and shut-in church members. Every first Sunday he went from house to house praying and serving the blessed sacrament.

He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. They kept him up to date with the latest technology and introduced him to TikTok. Douglas loved watching CNN and the stock market. His favorite shows were Married with Children, Sanford and Son, The Rockford Files, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune.

He lived out the last of his days at Menorah Park Nursing Home, where he often went around praying for other residents.

Douglas departed this life on November 4, 2023, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ann Price; and his brother, Lester Price.

Douglas is survived by his two children, Stephen (Africa) Price of Shreveport, LA, and Jessica Price of Warrensville Heights, OH; five grandchildren, Joshua, Nyla, Joy, Jazmine, and Chase; two sisters, Freeda Price of Cleveland, OH, and Alice Wilson of Jackson, MS; three brothers, Eddie (Beatrice) Price, Jr. of Canton, MS, Willis (Kathy) Price of Dracula, GA, and Percy (Annie) Price of Hinesville, GA; sister-in- law, Patricia Hemphill of Warrensville Heights, OH; and brother-in-law, Rev. Richard Wright of Baltimore, MD; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
