Dorsey L. Fears was born October 11, 1929 in Bishop, GA to the union of Flem Fears and Pauline Fears (nee Carter). From there, the family moved to Athens, GA. He was called to G'd on November 11th, 2012. Dorsey served two tours of duty with the United States Marine Corps between January 1947 and May 1953. During his second tour of duty he was called to serve in the Korean War. While serving in the Military, he became a boxer (Bantamweight), where he earned the nickname "Chalky" Fears after the famous black fighter Albert "Chalky" Wright. Dorsey moved to Cleveland, OH in the early 50's where he met his wife Darlene Simmons (deceased 1995). At that time he was employed by Hough Bakery for 33 years and retired in 1985. Wanting to be self-employed, he and wife Darlene acquired the Oasis on the Nile Restaurant in 1974 where they were in business for over 20 years. Attracted to the teachings of Islam, in the 60's, he became a dedicated and devoted Muslim in the community. He leaves behind his three sisters Helen Fears, Mae Johnson (Tommy, brother- in- law) and Alice Carter all of Athens, Ga. four children, Yvette, Ronnell, Pauline and Dorsey Jr (Kim, daughter in law); and five grandchildren, Brandon, Nakiyah, Autumn, Ihsaan and Najee. He also leaves behind a host of sister-in- laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death; wife Darlene, mother Pauline Fears, brothers Wyatt and Bobby, and sister Inez.
