Donte Wesley Stubbs Sr., affectionately known as Tae, who peacefully transitioned into eternal life on April 7th, 2024. Born on October 13th, 1971, to Sharyn K. Stubbs and John W. Johnson Jr., Donte Sr. spent his formative years in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating from John Hay High School.
Donte embarked on his professional journey at a young age, starting as a porta operator for Menorah at just 15 years old. His passion for cooking led him to pursue a career as an Executive Chef, a path he dedicated himself to for the next 35 years. Renowned for his culinary expertise, Donte's signature dish, "those ribs," became legendary among those fortunate enough to savor it. The majority of his career was spent at Candlewood Nursing Home, where he left an indelible mark through his culinary mastery. Later, he transitioned to Harvard Garden until illness prevented him from continuing his work.
In addition to his culinary talents, Donte was a dancer, sharing the stage with his twin sister Dawn L. Coker (Robert) in the group "Special Appearance." Together, they captivated audiences with their performances and shared a passion for dance. Donte's love for Polo reflected his distinctive style and appreciation for quality.
Donte Wesley Stubbs Sr. leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of culinary excellence, artistic expression, and personal style that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Sharyn K. Stubbs and John W. Johnson Jr., his children, Devon Quarles, Jnya Bragg, Donte Stubbs Jr., and Montrae Stubbs, and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin sister, Dawn L. Coker (Robert), sister Ferdina Pratt Brown (Arthur), sister Diana Johnson, brother John Wesley Johnson III, and brother Tyrone Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brother Lester Johnson. Alongside his family, he leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish his memory. Though his daughter Mercedes Stubbs has preceded him in death, his love for her endures in memory.
