Curtis Mitchell Sr

CELEBRATION OF LIFE
(April 5, 1937 - July 5, 2024)

Curtis Mitchell, Sr., 87, passed away on July 5, 2024. Born in Braggs Hill, Alabama, he was the cherished son of Martha and Asberry Mitchell, both deceased. Beloved husband of Bertha (nee Allen), deceased, and loving father of Annie Clark (deceased), Dr. Sharon Mitchell, Marita (Kevin) Ivey, and Curtis Mitchell, Jr. (Shawnetta).

He leaves behind 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Nine siblings preceded him in death, Clara Nell, Willie, Hullah Mae, Beulah Mae, Erskin, Eugene, James, Bettye, and Gloria. Five half-siblings from his father's first marriage also preceded him in death.

He will be missed by his brothers, Leodis and Claude, sister, Katie, all from Mobile, Alabama and sister, Gertrude, Prattville, Alabama. He has countless nieces and nephews given that he hails from such a large family. The family appreciates the love and care given by his special niece, Carolyn Atkins and his best friend and neighbor, Jadwiga "Ya Ya" Zoda.

Curtis was a truck driver until his retirement in 2000. He was a simple man, who never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He worked hard all of his life, starting as boy when he picked cotton and other crops alongside his parents who were sharecroppers. His corny jokes, love of casinos, and fishing stories will be missed by all who knew him.
