Cornelius Jones Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Vetter (Johnson) Jones-Taylor and Cornelius Jones Sr. in the year of our Lord March 11, 1939.
He accepted Christ at an early age and in knowing this he started on his life journey. He was educated in the Baltimore, Maryland, and Aliquippa, Pennsylvania school districts, attending Aliquippa High School. Cornelius joined the United States Army in 1955 where he served in Japan. After serving his country he went back to Baltimore but in 1962 decided to join his mother and family who were now living in Cleveland, Ohio. While embarking on his new life in Cleveland he met Geraldine Marbury and on August 14, 1963, they were united as one in holy matrimony. To this union, three children were born.
Cornelius was employed with Stouffers Foods (Nestle) for several years where he took early retirement in 1991. But he never sat down for long, and he started his second career as a security officer with Burns Security and fully retired in 2001. Cornelius joined the Good Shepherd Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eddie L. Hawkins and then under the leadership of Walter L. Radcliffe. He was a devoted servant of the church serving as a leader in its Awana Program for many years.
Cornelius was always the life of any celebration. He loved being with family. He loved playing and being with his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as (Uncle Browskie). He loved hanging out with his brother James (Schooch). Those two loved to cut up. He loved to laugh and crack jokes. He loved to dance, and he loved music, especially jazz music. He loved to celebrate the holidays with his family, and we always loved when he opened his presents on his birthday and Christmas, we loved to see the big smile he would get on his face after he opened each one. He was affectionately known from one side of the family as Junnie and the other side as Browskie. He didn't know any strangers and he was always willing to help and support anyone in need. He was a man that was truly loved.
On Sunday, March 19, 2023, he passed away in his home. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Geraldine Jones, by a sister Shirley Jones, stepmother Rosetta Jones, and stepfather James E. Taylor Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Anthony C. Jones (Ivy) Tacoma, WA; Constance M. Norris and Desiree L. Jones Cleveland, OH; Sha'ton La'tique Moody Atlanta, GA; eight sisters, Denise Taylor-Pendleton Cleveland, OH; Cassandra Orduna and Vernadine Jones-Jackson (Bruce) Baltimore, MD; Avis Jones-Petlane, Arnetha Jones-Wilkerson (Leray) and Veronica Jones-Jackson (Phillip) Brooksville, FL; Janice Jones-Brooks (Carl) Spring Hill, FL; Phyllis Jones-Changa Mableton, GA; two brothers, James E.
