Clarence Lee Walker was born on May 21, 1947 at St. Ann's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the only child of Edward Alden Walker and Doris Lee Walker.
Clarence accepted Christ at the age of 12 and was baptized at East Mount Zion in December 1959. He has been a faithful member and loved working with LifeLine at the clothing store and doing home food deliveries to the shut-in and disabled with his wife. He was also active with the Brotherhood. In July 2021 he attended the 1st service that was held in the church since the pandemic started.
Clarence grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Cleveland public schools through 9th grade where he graduated from Patrick Henry Junior High. His parents bought land and built a home in Bainbridge Township, in Geauga County in 1961-1962. He then attended and graduated from Kenston High School in 1965. He attended Central State University, The University of Toledo and Baldwin Wallace College. He later graduated from the Cleveland Engineering Institute with a degree as an Architectural Draftsman.
Clarence married Carrie Goggans on Sweetest Day October, 17, 1970. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage together. To this union was born one daughter Carla Leigh Walker.
Clarence worked several years for Cleveland Land Associates in that field as they renovated houses in the inner city. He worked several years at American Airlines as an air freight serviceman receiving and pricing air freight shipments and loading them onto airplanes. When the airline industry layoffs came along in the 70's, he changed careers and went to work at TransOhio Savings in the Administrative Services Department where he drove vans to supply the branch offices. Also, in that department he did in house printing and mail sorting. He later became the mail room supervisor. After 24 years TransOhio Savings went out of business. So, Clarence had to reinvent himself again for gainful employment. He attended Westside Technical Institute to receive training for Building Maintenance in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Plumbing. After completing the courses and certifications, he obtained work at the Sherwin-Williams Company where he retired after 20 years. In the late 70's to mid 80's he was an owner and operator of Lee Miles Video store.
Clarence enjoyed camping with his family and friends as well as attending drag racing tracks and the Indianapolis 500. He loved all things related to cars. During his retirement he loved to watch car auctions on TV, speedway track racing and watching Family Feud. His exercise consisted of walking the driveway numerous times. He also enjoyed cooking.
Clarence transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday, September 13, 2021 at David Simpson House of Hospice of the Western Reserve. His parents, Edward Alden Walker and Doris Lee Walker proceeded him in death. His grandmother Susie Hines Lee, the originator of the Ladies Guild and Coffee Hour at East Mount Zion Baptist Church, also proceeded him in death.
Clarence leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his devoted wife, Carrie L. Goggans Walker; one daughter Carla Leigh Walker-Smith (Steven Smith Jr.); one grandson Caden W.
