Charles Adam Ledyard, Jr. was born November 3, 1964 at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the first of three children to Charles and Loretta Ledyard. During his years as a toddler, he acquired the nickname "Petey" by his grandmother, Mollie Ledyard, who preceded him in death.
Petey was a very happy baby and a fun-loving toddler with an infectious laugh. As he continued to grow, it soon became apparent that his development was not that of a normal child. Upon visitations with physicians to determine a prognosis, doctors speculated that Petey was mentally retarded due to either a lack of oxygen in utero or he suffered brain damage at delivery. In either case, his life would fall outside of the norm and result in lifetime of assisted care.
As time passed, he would attend a school for developmentally delayed individuals in the Murray Hill area of Cleveland, Ohio. From there, he was enrolled at the Rose-Mary Home for special needs. As he got older, he would become a full-time resident at Stonewood Residential, on Cleveland's westside, for people with developmental disabilities.
On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Petey received his wings. He leaves behind his parents, Charles and Loretta Ledyard, his sister Angela Ledyard, a brother, Adam Ledyard, and a niece Andee Walker (Angela); and a hosts of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving relatives and family friends.
