Catherine Gaines Stroud was born in State Line, Mississippi on April 13, 1910; she was the eighth of ten children born to the union of David Gaines and Inez Powe Gaines. She moved to Mobile, Alabama in her early 20's where she met and married Lump Stroud in 1942. They were married for more than 50 years. They relocated to Cleveland in 1947 and Catherine later joined Parkwood CME Church. She was an active member with the Church Booster Club and the Senior Choir. After her retirement from the Cleveland Municipal School District (Patrick Henry) as a dietary staff member, she became a volunteer at Western Reserve Agency on Aging and a Senior Volunteer at Catholic Charities. She received several awards for more than 4,000 hours of service. Catherine loved being with people as well as working in her garden and yard and maintained a beautiful garden and yard for many years. She was also an active member of the Saywell Street Club for many years until her health declined. Her favorite pastime was working crossword puzzles and knitting. Catherine departed this life on February 23, 2011 at her home. She leaves to mourn five (5) generations of nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
