Carrie Hill

July 4, 1926 — September 6, 2020

Carrie Hill was born on July 4, 1926, in Putnam County, Georgia. She was the oldest child of her mother Catherine Little -Banks.

Carrie grew up in rural Georgia right before the Great Depression. As a young child she learned to cook and clean while her mother and step- father Marion Banks worked in the fields all day. Since she was the oldest grandchild, as younger cousins were born, she became the babysitter to all. Her mother would have two more daughters that were still born, and a son named Junior Banks.

Carrie as a young girl of 12 years lost her own mother during childbirth. As a motherless child she was cared for by her Aunts until she married as a young woman in her twenties.

Carrie moved to Cleveland during what is known as the great migration of black folk from the south looking for jobs. She would go on to have nine children in her lifetime and married three times.

During her young adult years in Cleveland she worked many jobs. At Metro Health Hospital she earned her certificate as Dietary Hostess and worked there for many years. She completed a certificate program as a Home Health Aid and worked as a home health aide. She completed Cuyahoga Community College Eastern Campus course for Women Homemakers. Carrie earned a Certificate of Recognition from Euclid Senior Programs for Dedication of Volunteer Service. Carrie also received a Certificate of Excellence for Dedicated Participation in the Emeritus House Line Dancing Program in Euclid Ohio.

Carrie got to travel to many wonderful exotic places all over the Caribbean and Hawaii.

Carrie's greatest joy in life was being a mom and grandmother.

Her family will miss her dearly, we are so blessed to have had our mother for so many years, but we know God needed to call her back home . Until we meet again mother, your family will love you forever.
