Bobby Jean Scott

Bobby Jean Scott was born on June 30, 1933, to James E. Scott, Sr. and Violet Agee Scott. She was the sister of James E. Scott, Jr. born on May 30, 1931. Bobby received Christ at a young age and was baptized at the age of 12 by Reverend H.C. Head, at Winona United Baptist Church.

Bobby received her education at Simmons High School in Montgomery, West Virginia, and graduated in 1951. Bobby moved with her parents to Cleveland, Ohio in April 1953, where she joined East Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend William M. Downs. Bobby continued her education at Finn College and Jane Adams College of Practical Nursing where she graduated in 1955. Bobby worked with residents and interns at Case Western Medical School on a project with mothers and children that lasted for 3 years. Bobby worked with the Civil Rights Movement during the years of Dr. King. Bobby marched during the Freedom March in Washington D.C. and worked with Dr. Zelma George setting up transportation out of Cleveland, for the Poor People's March.

Bobby was an active member of the East Mount Zion's “Star in East Missionary”, groups 10 and 14, Sunday School Class #3, Usher Board #2, and the Courtesy Committee, and she was also a member of Hope Fellowship under the direction of Annabelle Robinson.

Bobby spent a lot of time traveling to various places throughout the United States, including five of the Hawaiian Islands, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Africa, Mexico, and Canada.

Bobby worked with the Billy Graham Group headed by Rex Humbard Ministries out of Akron, Ohio. She enjoyed bowling twice a week in the Post Office and RTA Bowling cf Leagues.

Bobby was preceded in death by both her parents, James Sr., and Violet; her brother, James; nephew, Douglas, great-nephew, De'Shon; first cousins, Theodore "Buddy" Shepherd and wife Ruby "Toosie" who cared for Bobby until they died, Doris V. Dare Shepherd; niece, Julia, and good friend, Pearl "Peaches" Belton.

Bobby leaves to mourn her death three cousins, Karen Shepherd, Cassandra Dille, and Beth Anderson; niece, Karlene Turrentine; great nephews and nieces, Matthew, Mackenzie, Terry Jr., Tryphene, and Tomico. Special thanks to her caregivers at Walton Manor, and life-long friend, Esther Lofton.
